Stevens Point Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

A liberal religious community dedicated to the search for truth,
spiritual growth and service

Welcome Visitors!

On behalf of the congregation we are thrilled you are interested in learning more about the Stevens Point Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. If you are looking for a community that helps you grow spiritually, without telling you how to do it, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship might be a perfect fit for you. Our mission statement is “A liberal religious community dedicated to the search for truth, spiritual growth and service.”

We hope this site will help you get acquainted with our Fellowship. We cordially invite you to visit us and attend three to four of our services. There really is no better way to get to know  us!

Meanwhile, here are answers to a few questions we're guessing you might be asking about the Fellowship.

Come As You Are
Please feel free to come as you are most comfortable. Some people come each week in "business" casual, others are very casual. This “come as you are” atmosphere extends beyond mere clothing, as we welcome all seekers.

Can I bring my children?

Both you and your children are very welcome to our services, religious exploration (RE) classes and child care areas. Kids usually enjoy our classes and enjoy visiting. If you would like your children to visit RE, it is helpful to come a few minutes before the service so we can connect your family to the  RE teacher. If you bring a young child or baby to the service we have childcare for children under five.

Children stay with their families for the start of the service. Children are dismissed to the RE program after the  “Story for All Ages” is read in the service. Children young enough for childcare can be dropped off in the childcare room before the start of the service or stay with parents until after the Story for All Ages.

Parking
There are a few parking spaces on the west side of our building and on the street across from our building. There are designated handicapped spaces for those people who are less mobile near our front entrance.

Accessibility
All doorways are handicapped accessible. There are no steps in the building, and all areas are accessible within the building.

How do I find you?
We are located at 3116 Algoma Street, Stevens Point. We are very near the Main Street, and just across the street from Armory National Guard.

Prior to Service
Usually people arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the services. People gather in the front reception room as a greeting and socializing area. There you will find someone who will greet you and ask you to fill out a Visitor’s Registry Sheet and wear a nametag. There are brochures and information available by the Visitor’s Table and also in the hallway outside of the service room. To the right of the Front Reception Room is a restroom.  Additional handicapped accessible restrooms are off of the Service Room in the back.

Worship Service
Services are reflective, but informal times that allow everyone ample time to participate as they wish. You will be handed an Order of Service as you enter the Service Room. Services generally follow the same order: hymns, congregational sharing of joys and concerns, silent meditation or prayer, special music, a sermon and a time for the congregation to share their responses to the sermon, receiving of an offering for the congregation or a group beyond our walls,. The services are varied in theme and are led by guest ministers, community leaders or members of our Fellowship.

After the Service
We encourage visitors to stay after the service for coffee and snacks. It is a chance to meet  members and friends, ask questions and enjoy continued conversation. Members and friends are happy to meet with you, to share impressions and experiences and to welcome you to a church that encourages each person’s unique spiritual journey.
