LIFESPAN FAITH DEVELOPMENT Religious Exploration (RE) Curriculum Plan Fall 2007 – Spring 2008
The overall goals of the Spirit of Adventure: UU Identity curriculum are to: - Teach UU identity with an interactive curriculum focusing on learning through physical movement, challenge and adventure - Connect the weekly topics and stories to the seven UU Principles - Celebrate the holiday traditions of our UU faith movement and the SPUUF congregation - Encourage children to interact with their community and the world around them, and as they do so, to grow both spiritually and ethically.
Monthly
Youth Discussion group (7th - 12th grade)
A Note to Parents: Please take a moment to review the Children’s RE schedule (below) for a list of the topics your children will cover throughout the year. Please also use materials that your children may bring home from RE lessons as a starting point from which to explore with your child the UU principles and ideas that have been introduced that day. Information for Visitors: SPUUF Services begin at 11 a.m. on Sundays at The Springs Methodist Church. Children attend the first 10 – 15 minutes of service with their families and listen to a children’s story, then they go downstairs to the RE classroom for their lesson. We welcome your visits anytime in the RE classroom. Your Child’s First RE Visit: Please try to arrive early when you first visit, so that you can introduce yourself and your children to the RE volunteer teachers before the service. Parents are always welcome to visit the RE classroom, especially as their children adjust to a new classroom environment. You will be requested to fill out a short information/contact form on your first visit to the RE classroom, so that our volunteers can begin to learn your child’s name and also be advised of special needs (learning challenges, allergies, etc.). This will also allow us to contact you with RE updates. Childcare: Babysitting service is available for infants through pre-school/kindergarten age children in the downstairs nursery. Children attend the first 15 minutes of service with parents and listen to the children's story. Parents are welcome in the nursery as their children adjust to the new environment. There is a speaker system in the nursery that allows you to listen to the service. Intergenerational Services: Children attend the entire service (upstairs) with their family on scheduled intergenerational services days. We include many activities to engage the children, but we also recommend that parents bring some quiet activities to engage their children if they become restless (coloring books, reading, etc.).
